H.E. Wycliffe Wafula Wangamati is a distinguished public servant, the immediate former Governor of Bungoma County and a highly qualified actuary with over 20 years of experience in consultancy. His tenure as Governor was marked by significant achievements, including the transformation of the healthcare system, the execution of groundbreaking infrastructure projects, and the initiation of one of the most successful secondary school education scholarship programs in the country. Prior to his role in public service, Hon Wangamati held senior management positions in the pensions and investment consultancy sector, both locally and internationally, where he demonstrated exceptional leadership and strategic vision.
He served as the Managing Director of Zamara (formerly Alexander Forbes), where he played a crucial role in restructuring and re-engineering the business, leading to a substantial growth in the scheme’s asset base from Ksh 16 billion to Ksh 280 billion in under six years. His expertise extended to several pension schemes across Sub-Saharan Africa, where he provided consultancy services that significantly enhanced the management and sustainability of these funds. Wangamati is recognized as the fourth Kenyan to qualify as a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries, a testament to his exceptional skills and dedication to the profession.
