CHRP-K David W. O. Ochiel is a career public servant, employed by the Government of Kenya and currently deployed at the State Department for Public Service, Human Resource Management, Policy Division as a Director, Human Resource Management and Development (HRM&D). He has served in the Public Sector since 1995 and is a holder of a Master of Education (M.Ed.) from Kenyatta University (KU) (2008). He graduated with a Bachelors’ Degree in education in 1995 from KU where he studied Education, Geography, Philosophy and Religious Studies and taught both Geography and Christian Religious Education from 1995 to 2009 in two (2) public secondary schools and rose through the ranks from the position of a Graduate Teacher III to Principal Graduate Teacher cum Deputy Head Teacher. In 2009, he transferred service from the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to the Civil Service as an Assistant Director, and heard of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning and rose through the various ranks to his current position. David is a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K) since 2017 and a Member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (MIHRM). He is also a graduate of leadership studies from Haggai Institute of Advanced Leadership in Singapore and National Institute of Human Resource Development, Republic of Korea.
CHRP David was the head of Human Resource Development (HRD) in the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning from the year 2009 to 2017 and he is focused and passionate about personal and other public officers’ / professionals’ growth and development in their respective careers for improved individuals and organizational performance and productivity. To maximize this, he undertook both a Higher Diploma in Human Resource Management in 2015 and CHRP in 2017, at the College of Human Resource Management. He also undertook competency development courses in Public Administration Innovation at the National Institute of Human Resource Development, Republic of Korea and advanced leadership studies at Haggai Institute in Singapore.
Over the last twenty (20) years, CHRP-K Ochiel has worked with both individuals, professionals, professional bodies and organizations, both in the Public Service and private sector to enhance their professional and leadership development through lifelong learning and development that includes training, mentoring, coaching and capacity development in ways that build effective human capital, strong, productive and cohesive teams who are able to break through any barriers that would otherwise hold them and their teams back. In addition, he has coordinated a Comprehensive Medical Scheme Insurance Scheme for Civil Servants benefiting 139,470 Principal Members. His areas of focus are personal, career development, human resource management and development, public sector management and reforms, and organizational policy and leadership. Through mastermind training, mentoring, coaching and work performance and productivity many of the individuals and organizations he has worked with have reported high motivation and transformative experience with resulting positive outcomes. Looking forward to higher positions of responsibility, leadership and accountability in the Public Service nationally, regionally and globally and other organizations to attain their visions and goals and to place Kenya and Africa in the global map.
